One of the best ways to end a summer working day – or a day off – is to open a new bottle of wine and pour a chilled glass. It’s symbolic of the shift from work to relaxation, especially as the sun begins to set over Philly and the long day draws to a close. This means that as the days get hotter and hotter, the most important question for all Philadelphians is: what is the ultimate summer drink?

Finding the perfect summer wine isn’t easy, but who better to seek advice than Joseph Carr, founder of beloved wine brand Josh Cellars. Here, Carr shares details of her favorite summer wine picks, including her favorite varietals and pairings, so your evening libations and weekend alfresco dining can reach their full potential.

What is your favorite wine during the summer?

During the warmer months, I usually have one of our chilled white wines. I’m looking for refreshing and crispy selections perfect for alfresco dining all summer long.

Do you also like red wine during the warmer months?

While many people generally associate red wines with colder weather, a full-bodied selection like Josh Cellars’ Cabernet Sauvignon is actually a great option to serve at summer barbecues. With dark fruit flavors of black cherry and blackberry enhanced with vanilla and toasted oak, Josh Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon is rich and balanced. The full-bodied flavors of this wine pair well with grilled favorites like steak, burgers and brisket.

What other red wines do you recommend for the summer?

The Josh Cellars Reserve level offers other excellent summer red selections including our Cabernet Sauvignon North Coast, Paso Robles Cabernet Sauvignon and Bourbon Barrel Aged Cabernet Sauvignon. These wines are bold and complex, perfect with barbecue sauces, rubs and smoked meats.

Do you have any favorite summer food pairings?

With balanced flavors of crisp citrus, honey and hints of juicy peach, Josh Cellars’ Chardonnay is one of my favorite white wines to serve with summer meals, especially grilled fish and chicken. herbs. Our Josh Cellars Pinot Grigio is also a great option. It’s fresh and bright, perfect for pairing with appetizers like cold cuts and fresh bruschetta.

What is your favorite wine for the summer reunion?

Summer is also full of celebrations, so I always like to have Josh Cellars Prosecco on hand to serve at outdoor events and backyard parties. Our prosecco has refreshing flavors of ripe pear and green apple with a slight effervescence. It’s the perfect selection of bubbles to share with family and friends, best served with fresh oysters and seafood or used in a mimosa or Bellini brunch.

Tell us about the Josh Cellars brand. What is its origin story?

I created Josh Cellars as a tribute to my father, Josh. I was inspired by his work ethic and dedication and started selling Josh Cellars wines from the back of my truck in 2007. Born out of gratitude for my father, Josh Cellars has now grown into the one of the most popular premium wine brands in the United States.

What characterizes Josh wines?

Our wines are like my father: bold, balanced and accessible. We focus on producing easy-to-drink selections perfect for enjoying with family and friends.
