Sometimes there is nothing more refreshing and relaxing than a glass of wine.

However, with all the choices available, how do we know if we are choosing the right bottle?

Red or white? Sparkling wine or dessert? There are plenty of options when it comes to wine, and Celebrity Chef Kevin Dundon has shared some tips to make sure you get the perfect bottle no matter what the occasion.

According to Kevin, we should all keep an eye on the price of wine because it determines the quality.

While a good bottle can be tempting, the drink just won’t taste as good and Kevin says we should spend at least € 12 per bottle if we are to enjoy high quality wine.

“The juice, import and distribution of wine in Ireland is pretty high,” Kevin told RSVP Live.

“If you spend € 9 on a bottle of wine, you probably only get wine worth € 1 in the bottle, because the rest comes from taxes. You should definitely look for a wine over $ 12 or more.

Sharing his advice on how to choose the best wine, Kevin recommends keeping it light and crisp if you’re entertaining.

“If you cook for people, it’s very important that the wine is drinkable and not too heavy,” he says.

“If you go for a real full-bodied red wine, you can get tired quickly afterwards because it’s so heavy. In a dinner situation, you are better off drinking a few bottles of a lighter wine like a shiraz. A Sauvignon Blanc is also a very easy-drinking wine that can be tasted with or without food.

On top of that, the owner of Dunbrody House says people don’t have to follow the rules when pairing wine with food.

He told us, “I wouldn’t be a snob at all about it, it’s about everything you love. Typically you have white wine with fish and red wine with red meat, but I would say just pair what you like to drink with what you like to eat.

Kevin and his wife Catherine have teamed up with SuperValu to launch an exclusive new range of French wines, one red and one white, which will be launched in supermarkets nationwide in the coming weeks.

The wines were made in France, with samples sent for Kevin and Catherine to taste as they took care of the ingredients. They’ll be on sale in SuperValu stores this summer and even include a great feature for foodies.

“On the bottle of wine, there’s a QR code on the back, and when you scan it, it takes you to a video of me in a vineyard in southern France making meals,” he says.

“The white wine has a nice shrimp bisque to go with it, and the red wine has a leg of lamb.”
