Women’s hockey destroys Vineyard 4-0 in season finale

(March 3, 2022) The women’s hockey team ended its season on a high, with a 4-0 victory at Martha’s Vineyard last Thursday. The win avenged a last-second 4-3 loss to Vineyard earlier in the season.

“It was the best game we’ve ever played. It was a complete game, and the girls had an energy that I had never seen before,” head coach Liz Collins said.

Despite the victory, the Whalers will not make the playoffs this season. How could the Whalers (4-12-1) win in such a dominant fashion after playing the Vineyard just a few weeks ago at home? Collins thinks it was all about rivalry.

“It’s an island rivalry and I think it brings extra energy and an extra level of competitiveness. The girls pulled out all the stops today and we outplayed them all the time.
