Woman Delivers Unique Mobile Bar Experience Using Rare Italian Van – WISH-TV | Indianapolis News | Indiana weather

This mobile bar is probably unlike anything you’ve ever seen. Kate Harrod, owner of Just Call Kate Mobile Libations, joined us today to share how she managed to turn a 1982 Piaggio Ape into a fun new business.

1. Tell me about your background and how you got into this business.

I graduated from Indiana University. I specialized in hotel and tourism management and ecotourism, as well as in parks and recreation. I have worked in a service field since I was 14 years old. I have worked for pizzerias, Hiltons, Marriott / White Lodging hotels and a hotel investment / management company as an executive assistant. While I liked most aspects of each of these jobs, I was ready for something else, but I wasn’t sure what it was. During the summer 2020 lockdown, I found myself browsing through old travel photos in Italy, a place I can’t wait to return to. I came across the attached photo of myself in San Gimignano, Italy, and my memories came back to me. Conversations with a friend about the pleasure of owning a Piaggio Ape and doing “something” with it. It was then that I realized that “this is my other thing”.

I started researching what monkeys were used for these days. Movable bars have exploded across Europe and now the trend is really taking hold here in the United States. I find that owners in the United States have a greater variety of swing bars – from refurbished horse trailers to old milk delivery trucks. I set out on my search to find a Piaggio monkey and never looked back.

2. Tell me about your vehicle, where does it come from?

My 1982 Piaggio Ape has come a long way. I worked with a company that drove from their home in Poland to the Campobasso region of Italy, loaded my baby onto their trailer and returned to Poland to begin our design / refurbishment process.

3. Did you have a passion for craft beer before the Mobile Libations or did the business bring you to craft beer. What types of beers do you like?

What I love most is having a cool, crispy drink, throwing parties and having fun. So I would say that this mindset and feeling brought me to Mobile Libations. Now I can head over and enjoy a dream job with endless possibilities.

Yes! I’m totally into craft beer, although my Budweiser palette isn’t too hard to please! Every time I go to a new brewery I like to take a flight and allow the bartender to pick his favorites for me to try. I always enjoy a pilsner, a dark beer or a Kölsch, but I’m ready to try any beer. Mobile Libations is available to serve any style of drink on tap – from cold brew beer, wine and Prosecco, craft cocktails or simply lemonade!

4. What types of events do you like to do and have you done? What do you offer to customers?

I’m still starting. My scooter arrived on the state side in May and the next day I threw a birthday party for my mom with Centerpoint Brewing’s El Gato on tap. It was super delicious and frozen. It was such a rush to pour for the first part. I’m available for rent from September 2021, so party!

I will be at the Field to Vase U-Pick Flowers on Saturday August 14 from 9 am to 12 noon at 55923 Tulip Road, New Carlisle, IN.

• This event date is also the “Fill U-Pick Parking Lot With Jeeps” – so a fun event for Jeep owners, but not limited to Jeep owners. You can bring a picnic, pick and buy flowers, etc.
• At this time, I won’t be serving alcoholic drinks, but there will be something delicious on tap, rather a lemonade stand for this event.

I am happy to be a part of any style event that needs a cold drink served. Weddings of any style, funerals / life celebrations, backyard parties, birthdays, parties for no reason, bachelor / bachelorette parties, pre-weddings and receptions, corporate parties, beer festivals – the list could lie down for days!

I got a dry bar cart for rent. This means you hire me to bartender your event with the Mobile Libations scooter and the alcohol you purchased. I offer keg coordination for customers who don’t know what style of drink they want – I can make suggestions, I can pick up the kegs before the event and return the keg after the event. I don’t sell alcohol though 🙂

I offer a beautiful bartending experience that is a level above that of a simple bartender and barrel jockey with a skirted table.

Just Call Kate also offers home and business organization services. I created Just Call Kate originally for custom organizing services – pantry, kids’ areas, linen and clothes closets, garages, offices, attics – you name it, I organized it . I grew up in a larger family with a smaller space and from a young age organizing was something that became easy for me. I have always had the patience and the eye to find the right place for each article. It is sometimes difficult for people to make sense of spaces and it is such a privilege for me that my clients allow me to enter their intimate space to help this transformative process to take back control. I love the feeling of stepping into an overwhelming space and creating the peace that the space deserves. The look on a customer’s face when he returns to this space gives me all the sensations!
