Walmart’s added five premium wines to its Winemakers Selection store brand, a label that was discovered in 2018 and periodically renewed since then.

The latest addition is the Winemakers Selection Reserve series, five grape varieties at $ 10 a bottle, including an Argentinian malbec, an Italian pinot grigio, a French rosé, a Californian cabernet sauvignon and a New Zealand sauvignon blanc.

The premium reserve line extends from the Winemakers Selection label which was first launched in 2018 and was relaunched last year with the Winemakers Selection Classic wine series. The product was quickly a favorite with customers, said Jason Fremstad, vice president of adult drinks at Walmart, in a corporate blog post advertising the wines.

Store brand wines are very successful. Nielsen reported that private labels accounted for 3.12% of all wine sales at mass merchants, convenience stores and liquor stores for the 52 weeks ended Jan. 2. Store brands wine report, Kate Helm, senior director of private labels at E. & J. Gallo Winery, noted that more and more retailers are turning to private labels as a pillar of their strategic plans for global growth, adding that E. & J. Gallo doubled its private label sales volume between 2014 and 2018 and is set to repeat this performance until 2022.

The key to the reserve line is the global reach of the wines, with each wine representing a different region of the world. Pinot Grigio is native to the Venezie region of Italy, Andean Malbec in Mendoza, Argentina, a crunchy Rosé from the South of France, a fruity Sauvignon Blanc from the Marlborough region of New Zealand and a Cabernet Sauvignon in layers of California.

The Winemakers Selection Classic wine series remains available to consumers and is priced $ 5 less.

Based in Bentonville, Ark. Walmart operates approximately 10,500 stores and clubs under 48 banners in 24 countries, and e-commerce sites, employing more than 2.2 million associates worldwide. Walmart US is # 1 on the PG 100, the 2021 list of Progressive Grocer leading food and consumable retailers in North America.
