It’s that time of year again, and the Wine-Searcher’s Retailer Awards are bigger and better than ever.

Have you ever wondered what the Oscars in wine retail would look like? Don’t be surprised anymore, because today we are unveiling the fifth annual winners of the Wine-Searcher Retail Awards.

The rewards started in 2017 and since that exhilarating time when traders could earn 10 or more rewards, they have become increasingly refined and accurate with traders being recognized for demonstrating true excellence throughout the world. year as an all-rounder or specialist – or sometimes both.

Today, the maximum number of rewards a trader can earn is six, three for wine and three for spirits. If a trader is vying for more than three wine awards, he will be awarded the one he has excelled the most, and the same is true for spirits. The full winning formula – and a full list of winners – can be found here.

This year’s awards are the most comprehensive, accurate and extensive to date, with a total of 4,431 medals awarded to 1,692 merchants around the world – 3,468 for wine and 963 for spirits. For wine prices, there are 22 different categories, and for spirits, there are 11.

This year also sees countries like Thailand, Croatia, and Malaysia joining the mix, as previously Wine-Searcher lacked sufficient data to accurately record viable competition but over the year this has piled up and now the winners can be found in each. In total, this year sees Wine-Searcher Awards in a total of 36 different countries around the world.

So who are some of our winners?

An impressive 1,542 medals have been awarded in the United States, far too many to pass here. However, big wins went to Lehigh Wines and Liquors which scored big in the Bronx and Best Buy Liquors which cleaned up six gold medals in Brooklyn. Elsewhere in New York City, Grapes The Wine Company won two gold medals for Best Bordeaux and Best Overall List at White Plains, as well as bronze for Best Malt Whiskey.

On the west coast we have SommPicks winning three gold medals for top Burgundian, Rhone and French lists in San Francisco, and Wine House winning three gold medals for French, European and General in LA.

In Fort Lauderdale, Wine Watch Boutique won gold for Best Tuscan, Italian and General, and in Texas various Total Wine & More outlets chased gold.

In Canada, big winners include Rogers & Company in Ontario which won three gold medals for Europe, New World and Ensemble and ZYN The Wine Market which won five gold medals and a money in Alberta. In Brazil, Mistral won three gold medals for the best French, European and general list in Sao Paolo.

Across the Pacific, in Hong Kong, Hong Kong Wine Vault won three gold medals for the best German, Champagne and Burgundy list and The Fine Wine Experience also won gold for the best French, European list. and overall. In Shanghai, Delta Cellar (Jing Xiang Foods) won three gold medals in the Best European, New World and General categories. In Japan, Enoteca Online won three gold medals for the best French, European and general list in Tokyo.

In Singapore, The Oaks Cellars Pte Ltd won three gold medals for best French, European and general whiskey and one bronze for malt whiskey while Wines Online won three gold medals for its Rioja, Spanish and Italian.

In London, Berry Bros. & Rudd won three gold medals for the best Burgundy, Californian and American list, while Nemo Wine Cellars won gold medals for the best Bordeaux, Rhône and Italian. The Whiskey Exchange wins gold for blended whiskey and malt whiskey, as well as brandy and the Portuguese list, and a silver for champagne. Gold for champagne goes to The Finest Bubble, who have won five in a row, proving they truly live up to their name.

Outside of London, Brunswick Fine Wines & Spirits won two gold medals for Best Burgundy List and Best French List in East Sussex, as well as Silver for Best Overall. In Scotland, The Whiskey Shop scores well with three gold medals for best malt whiskey, best blended and finally best bourbon, and in Wales Mumbles Fine Wines takes gold for best overall and the best European.

Across the Irish Sea, our big winners in Dublin are the Celtic Whiskey Shop which has won five awards, including two gold for best malt whiskey and best gin. But who in Ireland won gold for best Irish whiskey? This honor goes to Mitchell & Son who also won the Gold for Best Bordeaux. However, as far as we know that there are many wonderful liquor stores outside of Dublin, not enough in one location outside of Dublin met our criteria to create any competition. So come on Cork, big things are expected in 2022.

Among our winners in continental Europe is ICWineTrading in Portugal which can rightly claim three gold medals for the best Burgundian, French and European list in Porto. In Paris, Vins & Millésimes won three gold medals for the Best Burgundy, Rhône and Champagne, while in Bordeaux Wineandco won Gold for Bordeaux. In Italy, Enoteca Costantini won big in Rome, winning gold medals for the Italian, European and general wine list, while also collecting two gold medals on the spirits front. In Tuscany, Enoteca Molesini won gold for his best Tuscan people. In Germany, Kölner Rum Kontor won two gold medals for best rum and malt whiskey in Cologne, and in Spain, Mariano Madrueño won gold for best gin list in Madrid.

In Australia, The Wine Collective AU won four gold medals in New South Wales, while The Wine Emporium Australia took gold for its champagne list in Queensland. Finally, in New Zealand – where all this magic happens – Maison Vauron took gold for best Bordeaux in Auckland, and the serial winners, Truffle Imports took home two gold medals for best European and overall list in Wellington. .

And for those retailers who weren’t successful: if you didn’t win a medal, know that this is by no means a reflection of your store or service. This can be due to a number of reasons as we exclude all pure wholesale, brokerage, and auction outlets from our rewards. Businesses must also be listed with us for at least a year, and there must be enough competition in your area to be able to compete – the more stores we list, the more competition there is.

On top of all that, we’re still evolving – as are our rewards – and there is always next year.
