24 wineries around the world earn Robert Parker Wine Advocate reviewer recognition in 2021 inaugural list

SINGAPORE & NAPA – Media OutReach – June 30, 2021 – Today, Robert Parker Wine Advocate unveils two new search filtering features on the RobertParker.com website: the ability to search for certified organic and / or certified biodynamic wines. In addition to these new search functions, the Robert Parker Green Emblem – recognition awarded to selected wineries that have demonstrated extraordinary efforts in the pursuit of environmentally responsible practices.

Definition of terms

Approved: A “certified” organic or biodynamic wine is a wine which has been cultivated and / or produced according to methods which have been audited and verified as organic or biodynamic, as dictated by the regulations of one of the internationally recognized third party organizations.

Organic: Organic viticulture involves a set of regulated breeding principles, the degree of rigor versus conventional agriculture depending on the countries in which the grapes are produced and where the wine is sold. Anywhere in the world where the use of the word “organic” is legally controlled and protected, regulations may vary. In order to declare the grapes from organic farming, the producer will have to request certification from a third-party audit body recognized in the country of production. Usually, a vineyard will have to go through a three-year conversion period of documented and randomly tested membership to national legal guidelines before an organic certification can be granted. Biodynamic: First created by Rudolf Steiner in 1924, biodynamics is a set of agricultural practices that follow more philosophical guidelines than those of conventional agriculture. It basically uses and builds on a foundation of organic farming methods, such as the exclusion of artificial chemicals. For example, specially developed composts and infusions are rigorously applied to the vines. To qualify for this award, a winery may or may not already be certified organic and / or biodynamic. Beyond or outside certification, the producer must be an exceptional promoter of sustainability who looks to the protection of the environment and biodiversity in the long term. The Robert Parker Green emblem is carefully studied and is awarded on rare and exceptional merit.

Every year, Robert Parker Wine Advocate critics nominate new nominees from their regions whom they deem worthy of the Robert Parker Green emblem. Each application is studied and discussed within the editorial group. Once an estate is recognized, all of its wines will carry the Robert Parker Green emblem in the future, until changes to the estate can result in the recognition being revoked.
