Northern Michigan Vineyard Launches White Wine for Summer

SUTTONS BAY, MI – Summer is peak season for wine tasting among the rolling vineyards of the Old Mission and Leelanau peninsulas. This year, Shady Lane Cellars in Suttons Bay puts a fun twist on its warm-weather drink list, offering FroBlanc — a slushy white wine that’s appropriately served with a Michigan cherry sitting on top.

The Slushy Presents Shady Lane’s White Coopwhich, according to the vineyard team, has aromatic notes of tangerine, honey, ginger and juicy pineapple.

“We wanted to think beyond Frosé and introduce something unique by using a perfect white wine for frozen wine porridge,” said Shady Lane winemaker Kasey Wierzba. “The fresh pineapple and tangerine nose of our Coop de Blanc made it the perfect base for Shady Lane’s FroBlanc Lemon. It’s the sunny yellow of summer in a wine glass topped with a Michigan cherry.

Frozen rosé wine drinks have been all the rage on summer menus in recent years. But this local FroBlanc is carefully crafted in the winery just north of Traverse City on beautiful hilltop grounds that hug the 17-mile Leelanau Trail, making it easily accessible to cyclists as well as those driving in its car park. at 9580 E. Shady Lane. The vineyard also has an interior path for summer walks.

Made with 100% Vignole grapes, a golden lemon syrup is added to the wine, then the mixture is frozen. FroBlanc is available in the winery’s indoor tasting room and its outdoor patio bar.
