Help protect British Columbia’s treasures

You can help preserve British Columbia’s natural heritage from the comfort of your sofa at the Nature Trust of BC Virtual Gala this week.

The Nature Trust is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year.

This Wednesday’s free online celebration will take place from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. and includes an auction with all proceeds going to protect critical habitat across the province.

Items offered for auction include exciting outdoor experiences, fine wines, lifestyle experiences and more.

The Nature Trust has conserved over 500 properties and nearly 178,000 acres of critical habitat for endangered plant and animal species since its inception – “treasured places like the Salmon River with its abundance of fish, birds and elk on Vancouver Island, Boundary Bay on the flight path of hundreds of thousands of migratory birds in the Lower Mainland, White Lake Basin, home to many species at risk in the Okanagan , and the magnificent 10,000-acre Hoodoos property in the Kootenays are protected for future generations.

British Columbia has the most species of any province or territory in Canada, but 43% of them are on watch lists due to low or declining populations, according to the trust.
