Jimmy family say Ford made offer for new car and debt settlement

Reshall Jimmy’s family who burned alive in a Ford Kuga held a briefing on Wednesday.

Reshall’s family Jimmy briefed the media on an alleged Ford offer at a settlement meeting on Friday, along with new allegations regarding his death.

Jimmy burned to death in a faulty Ford Kuga in December 2015.

A nationwide recall of Kugas was launched earlier this year after at least 50 of the variants of the 1.6-liter model caught fire.

Jimmy’s sister Renisha said former Ford South Africa chief executive Jeff Nemeth made an offer to settle in a meeting a week ago and offered to pay the claim for the Kuga of his brother. She says he also claims Jimmy was shot in the head.

They rejected the offer.

EWN reporter Barry Bateman shared details of this briefing.

As compensation, the company is giving the family a free car for up to R 1 million and will also pay off any debt related to the burnt car.

A version came out of Ford suggesting that Reshall Jimmy had in fact committed suicide and that it was not the vehicle’s fault.

Nemeth now says that Reshall Jimmy was in fact murdered, that he was shot in the head, and that they came to that conclusion because they actually dispute the pathologists’ conclusions.

Forensic scientist David Klatzow said the latest claim by Nemeth, who at one point claimed that Jimmy had committed suicide, is not supported by the autopsy report.

Luckily we had David Klatzow on hand who says the study of this has been completely ruled out, this is based on a policeman who was at the scene when the body was in the vehicle and he saw a whole behind the ear right side of the body, then the pathologist was specifically asked to look for a gunshot wound, he ruled it out … the crack in the skull was caused by the heat of the flames.
