Idris Elba returns to the bar with a new launch at King’s Cross. He’s already opened The Parrot in Aldwych – but it’s quite different from this cocktail bar. This time he teamed up with Connaught Wine Cellars founder David Farber to set up a Porte Noire wine bar and shop (if you haven’t heard of it, it’s a brand of wine and Champagne).

They take up space at Gasholders – it is the circular development of King’s Cross which is in the Victorian gasholder structure at King’s Cross.

Porte Noire will have both a bar and a restaurant. For food, we are told to wait for Oeuf Meurette (a Burgundian dish of poached eggs in a red wine sauce) and simmered beef cheek, apple puree, leek parsley. The wines will naturally be a big draw, with 800 available and they say they will have “one of the biggest fine wine tasting rooms in London”.

It might just be one to watch out for, especially if you manage to glance at Idris while sipping your champagne.
