Dr Bernard Grech, candidate for the leadership of PN, has been very explicit in his defense of life. “I am against abortion and euthanasia,” he said at a meeting Newsbook.com.mt as part of a series of newsrooms led by this leadership contestant.

The question of life was one on which it was extensively toasted by Newsbook. Over the past few days, as his words sounded cohesive, interpretations erupted that his lifelong commitment was covered. ” This is not the case. I believe that life has absolute value and I have always been committed to protecting life from conception to beyond the grave, ”said Grech. Beyond the grave? Yes, he said firmly, because there is also dignity in death. He said the value of compassion and support needs to be explored but that life, in all of its stages, comes first.

Grech pointed out that PN believes in full respect for the value of human life, full respect for the dignity to which every person is entitled and full respect for the rights of every person in the magnificent spectrum of cultures, races, religions. , sexual relations of humanity political and religious orientations and convictions.

Can there be a united Nazzjonalista Party?

The youngest of three siblings, Grech said his challenge to the leadership was secured thanks to the support of people including MEP Roberta Metsola, MP Therese Comodini Cachia and former PN executive committee chairman Mark Anthony Sammut. All of them had been interested in running for leadership themselves. Grech said he believes there is a lot of good that can be used to build the future. “Even Adrian Delia himself can be part of this solution,” insisted Bernard Grech.

Grech said that for him dialogue is the basis of any relevant and strong policy. He said he wanted a more interactive dialogue, a dialogue that not only listens but also gives feedback, a system that creates a virtuous cycle of communication. He said that every voice is important, that it comes from inside the party and that it comes from outside. “I would like the widest possible communication to be created that listens and responds by creating a unit from which force is derived,” Grech said.

And what about large companies?

Finances are always a thorny issue and for the NP perhaps even more so. What relationship does Grech see with big business, Newsbook asked? Grech said that in this area you have to make sure you stay focused. Not all businesses are unethical, he said, and not all business people are bad. He did not rule out accepting donations from large companies that operate legally and ethically. He warned clearly: “Great businessmen can help, but they must be willing to help, not bribe.”

Turning the crosshairs on the economy, Newsbook asked Grech for his particular vision for ensuring that wealth is distributed more evenly. Grech insisted that the common good can only be achieved when all sectors of society feel they can move forward. He stressed that not everyone should benefit in the same way and that those who need it most should receive more help. Another warning:

“We want people to get what is rightfully theirs through due process and not by begging from a politician.”

Grech said you can’t talk about justice, rights and anti-corruption when many are unemployed, hungry or on the brink of poverty. I want a party that can genuinely listen to a diversity of opinions, feel the hardships of the people and share the aspirations of the community, especially those most in need. This is how we create the common good, ”said Bernard Grech.

And women?

He said his experience of family life was one where he and his wife worked and where family upbringing had been fully shared, from their children’s early childhood. He said it is not fair to expect women to do three jobs: housewives, mothers and workers when it is not expected of men.

“Oh, I really want to empower women to reach their full potential. I don’t see why we should be looking at gender and not at capabilities, ”said Grech.
