With new developments popping up all over the city, business in Birmingham is booming. State-of-the-art lofts and comfortable urban condominiums are continually adding to the horizon. One of the latest is Mercantile on Morris, a mixed-use development located on iconic cobblestone Morris Avenue. Developed by Orchestra Partners, Mercantile comprises 47 residential condos, ranging from micro-units to two-bedroom condos. Each unit opens onto a terrace overlooking a lively pedestrian square below. The plaza comprises 14,000 square feet of retail with a combination of shops, restaurants and bars that includes some of the city’s most anticipated openings.

Pizza Grace

This artisanal pizzeria specializes in Neapolitan-style wood-fired pizzas made with naturally leavened three-ingredient sourdough. Topping offerings feature fresh, seasonal ingredients. In many cases, the products are the star, as evidenced by the vegetarian pizza with pesto, baked garlic, smoked provolone, roasted mushrooms, kale, gremolata and toasted breadcrumbs. The restaurant also offers a rotating menu of desserts and vegetable dishes in large portions.

Hide and Hunt

Hide & Hunter is a handcrafted and recycled leather goods brand that makes unique leather bags, luggage and other accessories. Owner Hannah Christine created the brand in 2013, mixing her passions for influence and design. A portion of the profits from each bag sold is donated to support awareness trips nationally and internationally.

Gelato Canella (early 2022)

This artisanal gelateria makes artisanal ice creams and sorbets daily, preparing everything on site, from the base of the ice cream to the finished product. The store will feature permanent signature flavors of vanilla, chocolate and lemon-lavender-honey-goat cheese, as well as a rotating menu of seasonal flavors. Coffee, tea and hot drinks will also be available.

Bar La Fête (early 2022)

From the owners of The Essential, another Morris Avenue favorite, comes Bar Le Fête, a Parisian wine bar with a full menu of French-inspired sharing plates. In addition to the lovely wine bar offering fine wines, beers and premium spirits, Bar Le Fête will also be home to the couple’s upcoming Bandit Patisserie outlet (formerly at Homewood), where you can find pastries. for breakfast, croissants, cakes, breads, and more.

With a mission to make fitness accessible to everyone, everywhere, every day, this Pilates studio is ready to join Birmingham’s growing fitness studio community this spring.
