Hallgarten & Novum Wines has expanded its Italian portfolio by introducing 16 wines from five different producers in northern and central Italy.

Newcomers include family-run organic producer Brezza, located in Piedmont, with vineyards in and around Barolo; Verdicchio’s award-winning experts, Agricola Tenuta Colpaola; the family business Carminucci, which produces wines from organic gapes; and the champions of Frascati wine, Castel de Paolis.

The spate of new Italian listings had been fueled by the post-pandemic appetite of UK consumers to return to the hospitality sector – an industry that has long been associated with Italian wines on restaurant lists and which has seen an increase in 61% (CGA year as of December 26, 2020) decrease in volumes of Italian wines over the past year due to the forced closure of the market, according to Hallgarten.

“Italian wines are still at the heart of restaurant wine lists and independent wine merchant shelves across the country, and with last year’s bottles dropping reaching our shores, we’re sure there will be a huge demand for Italian wines this year, “said Steve Daniel, purchasing manager at Hallgarten,

“These must-have wine styles are used by commerce and consumers, and we are delighted to have further expanded our Italian portfolio.

“We have introduced these four new producers to our range because they each offer something interesting and intriguing from their region, and embody our philosophy of sustainable viticulture and our passion for the vineyards from which they come. ”

In addition to new Italian producers, Hallgarten has also added its first Prosecco Rosé Brut from longtime partners, Sacchetto. Prosecco Rosé is a blend of 88% Glera and 12% Pinot Nero.

The latest additions to Hallgarten’s portfolio follow the addition of new Greek wines from Ios and Kefalonia earlier this month.
