Canastota Italian-American Festival Returns August 13 – Oneida Dispatch

CANASTOTA, NY – After a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Canastota Italian Heritage Committee will host an Italian American Festival on North Canal Street in the Village of Canastota on Saturday, August 13. The festival will kick off next to the historic Erie Canal at 11 a.m. and run until 7 p.m.

The celebration of Italian-American culture will include live local entertainment, Italian and American cuisine, historical exhibits and demonstrations, produce sales and local artisan booths featuring custom products.

This one-day event features three local bands: MillerTime Entertainment will take the stage at 11 a.m., followed by ZZ & Dan Pugh at 2 p.m. and Rewind at 4 p.m.

Have lunch and dinner at one (or all) of the food truck vendors, with local specialties including the traditional sausage sandwich, pastries, fried bread dough, freshly squeezed lemonade, hot corn , cotton candy, tube steaks, pizza, homemade meatballs, shaved ice, rolling bistro, honey mustard nuts, pastries, jams and cookies, biscuits half moon and Italian treats, fudge and wine.

Historian Joe DiGeorgio will lecture on the Erie Canal and the Italian heritage brought by Italian settlers to Canastota at the Erie Canal Museum.

Vendor sales will include holiday crafts, apparel, candles and scents, rope bowls and wooden holders, pampered chef, tupperware, deco wreaths, wooden signs, wines locally grown, Tastefully Simple, homemade afghans, custom epoxy, paparazzi and vinyl t-shirts. , keychains, artwork, diamond stitches, Color Street, wood crafts, sunglasses, handbags, designer clothes, Italian shirts, blankets, homemade pillowcases and throws, dreamcatchers , jewelry, children’s games and more!

The event is sponsored by the Tri-Valley Trail Riders Snowmobile Club, Community Bank, C&M Research, LLC, Zems, Owl Wire, Don and Linda Forth, Nye Automotive, Anthony and Carol Sorbello, Jake’s Greenhouse and Ice Cream, AJB Property Maintenance and Conical Heads.

The festival is free to the public and is a rain or shine event.
