An “evening in Capri” that breaks all records • Atascadero News

PASO ROBLES – The California Central Coast Cancer Support Community (CSC-CCC) held its 7th annual Harvest, Hope, & Healing Gala on August 20, and it was another banner year.

Nearly $340,000 has been raised at the “Evening in Capri” themed fundraiser held annually at Rava Winery in Paso Robles. This year’s fundraiser raised $80,000 more than last year’s record high.

“We were really excited about it this year,” said general manager Candice Sanders.

CSC-CCC is a local non-profit organization dedicated to helping people affected by cancer by providing services and support groups to patients and their loved ones.

With the motto “So that no one faces cancer alone”, CSC offers a professional program of emotional support as well as education so that participants learn vital skills that will allow them to regain control, reduce isolation and to restore hope, no matter the situation. the stage of the disease.

Proceeds from the evening are used to run the CSC-CCC’s various programs including individual counselling, support groups, health and wellness, patient referrals and education of local families affected by the cancer.

Funds were raised through various auction items, including a trip to Italy, according to Sanders, a very popular item. Another unique item up for auction was the Ultimate Top Gun experience which took one lucky winner to the “danger zone”.

The main sponsors for this year’s gala were Rava Wines + Events, Erin Hearst and Circle 6 Ranch, David and Nancy Lacey, Avila Traffic Safety, 13 Stars Media, Clark Company Ranch and Real Estate and Paso Robles Wine Country Alliance.

Along with great wine and food, two community members were honored for going the extra mile for the cancer support community.

Dr. Shannon Berry was honored as Medical Person of the Year. Berry is the current chair of the CSC-CCC board of directors and has been with the nonprofit since 2016. She works as an internal medicine specialist.

“She works tirelessly for us and our cause,” Sanders said. “She’s also a great doctor in the area and she refers a lot of people to us.”

Dr. David Lacey was honored as Philanthropist of the Year.

“Him [Lacey] and his wife Nancy are strong supporters of our cause and have been dear to us for many years,” Sanders said.

Lacey, who is based in Cambria, is always a big part of fundraising for the CSC-CCC Tour of Paso bike ride. Each year, he brings together a team of 20 to 30 people from Cambria to form the “Flat Town Rollers” teams. His team often raises the most funds, winning team of the year after the bike ride.

The CSC-CCC is located in Templeton and now offers support in person and virtually.

“We are here; we are open,” said Sanders, who encourages anyone in need of help or support to feel welcome to visit.
